Stone-Coated Steel Roofing

A stone-coated metal roof is made from steel or some other metal; the metal is then coated with stone chips and attached to the steel with an acrylic film. The goal is a more durable roof that still retains the aesthetic advantages of a more traditional roofing material. There are two types of installation, 'Batten System Installation' (higher grade) and 'Direct to Deck' Installation (lower grade).

Panel Metal Roofing

Panel Metal Roofing comes in two predominant styles: Seam Metal Roofing (often referred to as Standing-Seam) and Ribbed Panel Metal Roofing.

Panel metal roofing is manufactured from factory-painted, rolled galvanized steel. Panel metal is factory-painted with paint that generally carries extensive manufacturer’s warranties for durability and fade. Panel metal roofing comes is a large variety of paint styles and colors. Premium paints with higher durability, fade resistance and extended manufacturer’s warranties are available.

Panel metal is available in a number of different metal gauges. Panel metal for roofing is generally made from 24 gauge, 26 gauge or 29 gauge steel, 24 gauge being the thickest gauge and 29 gauge being the thinnest gauge. For residential and commercial buildings we generally recommend 24 or 26 gauge steel, as the panels are more rigid and will have a better finished look. Twenty-nine gauge metal often has some waviness (called oil-canning), and is generally only acceptable for industrial or farm use.
